Cultural Microcosms di ldieschbourgAs part of an exhibition at Pop Up Gallery in Brussels, I had the opportunity to exhibit and sell illustrations. Only, there was a problem: I did not have any, physically speaking, as I usually work by sketching then digitalizing! So, I chose to do a complete new set of illustrations, and perhaps even see if I could get them printed. I’ve been a sucker for screen printing since I first understood what it was, so I hooked up with Bikini studio, also located in Brussels. They managed to produce amazing prints of my illustrations which I’m really happy about. The illustrations themselves are a memorabilia/microcosm of five cultures that I really like. I tried to illustrate Greece (my native country), USA, Portugal, Mexico and Japan in the most accurate yet quirky and ironical way, using a witty catchphrase for each. In order to do that, I had to spend a good time immersing myself in each culture’s songs, pictures, books, people to get all the information in. It was a tough task to do for Portugal because I had to listen to Amalia Rodrigues (fado singer) and the tears kept pouring and pouring! If you do not know this singer, I dare you to try it for yourself. An experience! I’m also selling these prints on Etsy, so feel free to take a look: http://www.etsy.com/shop/DishExperiments

Contano i fatti e non le parole, ma quando queste son forti e decise che facciamo?

Penso che ti amo.
Grammaticalmente scorretto, ma vero.
